Exhibit celebrates three North Country ‘Innovators’
SUNY Adirondack will show the work of three North Country artists in the exhibit “Artists as Innovators: Celebrating Three Decades of New York State Council on the Arts/New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowships,” which runs Feb. 14 through April 18 in the Visual Arts Gallery in Dearlove Hall on the Queensbury campus.
The exhibit, which includes work by Cynthia Schira, Bill McDowell and Theodore Krueger, is a partnership between the State University of New York and NYFA/NYSCA to honor artists who have been awarded fellowships since the program’s inception in 1985.
Schira is a textile artist who was awarded the NYFA/NYSCA fellowship in 2005. McDowell, a photographer, was awarded a fellowship in 2008. Theodore Krueger received awards in both 1987 and 1992 for architecture.
The show is part of a larger core exhibit, which debuted at the Samuel Dorsky Museum at SUNY New Paltz in Fall 2018 and will travel to seven other SUNY schools. SUNY Plattsburgh will host the core exhibit in the Burke Gallery from May 24 through August 30 — and a “Guerrilla Girls” workshop on May 9 and 10.
An opening reception for “Artists as Innovators” will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 14 in the Visual Arts Gallery at SUNY Adirondack.
Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.
