Photography students show work at LARAC gallery
SUNY Adirondack and the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council have partnered for the exhibit “Corners,” a photographic project being displayed March 31 to April 28 at Lapham Gallery in downtown Glens Falls in conjunction with LARAC’s “Still Explorations” show.
“Corners” features photographs by SUNY Adirondack students in Renee O’Brien’s Intermediate Photography class during the Spring term.
The impetus for the project was Irving Penn’s “Portraits in a Corner” series, which featured celebrities captured in a confined space created by two studio flats and a floor covered with old carpeting. The student photographers found inspiration in this concept by using corners to position their photo subjects.
Student photographers include Kayla Albano, Nicole Betit, Matthew Foster, Joseph Goetz, Coleman Granger, Nicole Gusse, Jordan Lichtenberger, Patrick McCormick, Gillian Rockwell, Kasey Rypkema, Teresa Stursberg, Brian Thiem and Shelby West.
An opening reception for both shows will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. March 31 at Lapham Gallery, 7 Lapham Place in downtown Glens Falls. Kirsty Blow will perform during the event.
“Still Explorations” represents a collection of works by regional artists who have captured various worlds through their lenses. Artists include Lindsay Tripp, Sarah Stonefoot, Michael Hower, Zack Zoll, Chris Stach and Marty Hardin.
