Scholarship created as memorial to Professor Mary LaPann
The SUNY Adirondack Foundation recently established the Mary Prunty LaPann Memorial Award for graduating students through private donations and a lead gift from the Faculty Association.
The award is intended for students who demonstrate financial need and are graduating from the SUNY Adirondack Business Division with an associate degree and a 3.0 overall grade point average. To be considered, students will have to complete an essay. The candidate will be selected by the Business Division each spring.
Mary LaPann passed away from breast cancer in May during her 15th year of teaching business at SUNY Adirondack. At the college, she was an academic advisor, business club adviser, served on the negotiation committee for the union, served as head of the assessment committee, was the treasurer for the union, the Chair of the Curriculum Committee and started the first Chapter of Toastmasters on the campus. Always charitably inclined, LaPann served as a founding member of the World Awareness Children’s Museum, a board member of TCT Federal Credit Union, a Trustee of Crandall Library and a volunteer at numerous local charities and homeless shelters. She ran a successful CPA practice prior to joining SUNY Adirondack.
