SUNY Adirondack honors veterans at annual ceremony
College returns to in-person commemoration of Veterans Day
QUEENSBURY (Oct. 28, 2021) — SUNY Adirondack is proud to announce its annual Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at the Veterans Memorials on campus.
“SUNY Adirondack looks forward to this opportunity to honor our nation’s veterans and their families,” said Kristine D. Duffy, Ed.D., president of SUNY Adirondack. “Among the many liberties we have in the United States is pursuit of education, and we have such opportunities because of the bravery, sacrifice and service of our veterans.”
The Veterans Day Ceremony is presented by SUNY Adirondack’s Veterans Club and the Faculty Student Association. Color Guard will be performed by American Legion Post No. 533.
Anne Wojtowecz, president of the college’s Veterans Club, will speak at the ceremony.
Wojtowecz is a 1999 graduate of Hudson Falls High School. She served in the U.S. Army from 1999 to 2011, primarily as a chemical operations specialist. She was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where she served with the 101st Airborne Division. She was deployed to Iraq from 2003 to 2004 and 2005 to 2006 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Wojtowecz enrolled at SUNY Adirondack in January as an Information Security major. She is also president of the college’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, an international collegiate honor society.
“This ceremony is one more step back to a sense of normalcy after the pandemic,” Wojtowecz said. “It’s a wonderful privilege to once again be able to congregate and commemorate veterans on campus and in our community.”
SUNY Adirondack has a long history of serving veterans and active duty military members, and their families. The college has a thriving Veterans Club, which provides support to veterans and performs volunteer activities throughout the year, and an on-campus Veterans Resource Center.
More than 170 veterans, active duty and Reserve and National Guard members, and their dependents attend SUNY Adirondack.
“We are excited to honor veterans in person this year, after having to adapt last year’s commemoration because of the pandemic,” said Ryan Thomas, College Access coordinator, U.S. Air Force veteran and veteran point of contact on campus. “This annual event helps show our gratitude to those who served and reminds us of the impact veterans have made on our community.”
The ceremony is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in Northwest Bay in Adirondack Hall. Please note that masks are required indoors for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status.
