SUNY Adirondack offers special events for March
Politics, history and women's issues among topics addressed in free talks.

QUEENSBURY, New York (March 12, 2024) — SUNY Adirondack caps an exciting month of diversity-driven events with a Women’s History Month panel discussion.
"March is another month in which the campus and community at large can come together to create relationships and learn from some of our talented faculty, staff and students,” said Cornelius Gilbert, Ph.D., chief diversity officer at SUNY Adirondack.
At 3:30 p.m. March 18, Evan Sullivan, Ph.D., assistant professor of History at SUNY Adirondack, will present “Pathologizing Politics: Eugenics, Ableism and Political Discourse in the Modern United States,” as part of the college’s Brown Bag series.
At 12:30 p.m. March 20, Liz Lastowski, Class of ’00, director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations, will share her research on the little-known history of Lake George's Oneida Bay in “Reclaiming Van Buren Bay: The Story of Benjamin Van Buren.” Lastowski investigates the battle for Van Buren, a free black settler in the mid-1800s, to keep his namesake.
Both events are free and open to the public, and will be held in Scoville Learning Center, Room 206. Refreshments will be served.
A panel discussion, “Women in Higher Education Leadership Symposium,” will be held at 12:30 p.m. March 27 in Northwest Bay Conference Center, Adirondack Hall. The event is hosted by the Office of the Chief Diversity Officer and the vice president of Enrollment and Student Affairs.
John Delate, Ph.D., vice president of Enrollment and Student Affairs, will moderate a panel that includes:
- Deanna Bushey, student;
- Colleen Wise, director of Financial Aid;
- Rachael Patten, chief advancement officer;
- Donna Hayles, associate professor of English;
- Amy Macaluso, Ph.D., assistant professor of Biology;
- Kathie McCoy, Ph.D., distinguished professor of English;
- Julie Clark, assistant director of Athletics
College President Kristine D. Duffy, Ed.D., IT typist Rita Debnam, Gilbert and Bushey will offer remarks.
The event is free and open to the public. Food and beverages will be available.
